In 2019, four leading organizations—SMUD, the Greater Sacramento Economic Council, Sacramento State, and UC Davis—came together to establish Cal EPIC (formerly known as the California Mobility Center). They recognized the rapid rise of the clean energy workforce and the growing demand for highly skilled labor in the electric vehicle sector. At the same time, it was clear that Sacramento did not yet have enough trained professionals to meet this need. To bridge this gap and drive innovation, Cal EPIC was created with a mission to equip Sacramento’s workforce with the skills required in this emerging industry. In doing so, the organization supports the region’s zero-carbon goals while uplifting the local community and positioning Greater Sacramento as a hub for clean mobility.
