Who We Are: Cal EPIC

California has set the most ambitious clean energy goals in the nation. Cal EPIC exists to make them real. Our 33,000-square-foot Innovation Hub in [location] brings together startups, manufacturers, and workforce talent to build the energy and transportation technologies that get us there — with an EV and charger testing lab, manufacturing and prototyping facilities, and programs designed to move innovators from concept to commercial scale. This is where California's zero-carbon future gets built.

Our Story

In 2019, four leading organizations—SMUD, the Greater Sacramento Economic Council, Sacramento State, and UC Davis—came together to establish Cal EPIC (formerly known as the California Mobility Center). They recognized the rapid rise of the clean energy workforce and the growing demand for highly skilled labor in the electric vehicle sector. At the same time, it was clear that Sacramento did not yet have enough trained professionals to meet this need. To bridge this gap and drive innovation, Cal EPIC was created with a mission to equip Sacramento’s workforce with the skills required in this emerging industry. In doing so, the organization supports the region’s zero-carbon goals while uplifting the local community and positioning Greater Sacramento as a hub for clean mobility.

Partnerships

Cal EPIC proudly collaborates with a diverse network of nonprofit partners across the Greater Sacramento region. While each organization brings unique expertise, we are united by a shared mission: to empower our community and open pathways to meaningful employment.
